She’s sleeping a lot right now and we are glad to let her do it. The puppies are all well formed and now just waiting for the right time to be born. Today marks day 60 since ovation or 59 days since her first breeding. Dogs can whelp from day 58 – 64 so we are confident there will be puppies sometime this week.
We are taking Maddy’s temperature daily – when it drops from 99 – 101 to below 98 we know that there will be babies on the way soon.

About a week before whelping, I like to do an xray to get an idea of how many beagle puppies we are expecting. That way, if labor stops and you know there is a puppy or two left, we can call for help and intervention (if need be)
We did a top view and side view. You can see the little skeletons – they kind of look like little lizards don’t they 🙂
From the top view, we can clearly see 4 – two on each side. From the side view, it almost looks like a 5th is tucked up by her leg. Or maybe that’s just a shadow. Either way, we are excited that there will be 4-5 puppies coming soon.
Of course, we need to get them safely into the world – so much can go wrong, and so we are hoping and praying for a safe delivery of all of them, no matter how many or few there are.
Maddy is definitely pregnant and her beagle belly is growing each day. We are dying of course to know how many little ones are in there – its hard to believe that in less than a month we will be snuggling them 🙂
We here at Kazuri are excited to announce the upcoming litter of Maddy and Slugger. This is a line breeding and includes some gorgeous dogs on both sides. I am excited to see what these two produce.

Although, not a Kazuri beagle, I wanted to say congratulations to my mentor Sheri from Foxtail Beagles – Madison’s littermate Diesel went BIS yesterday AND today at the Kansas City Garden show under judges Dr Alvin Krause (Variety & Group) and Judge Mrs Betsy Horn Humer (Best in Show) and todays judges Ms Elizabeth Muthard (Breed), Mr Charles Olvis (Group) and Dr Donald Gill (Best in Show).
Diesel seems to be following in daddy JJ’s pawprints. We are so proud of what you have achieved so far!
Its been over a year and a half since we had a litter of puppies so when Alisha from Lockestar Cavaliers contacted me about socializing her recent litter, we jumped at the chance. These puppies’ mom is Arrow’s sister Penny.
Baylea, Kinzie and Dollar were a little timid at first but it didn’t take them long to get used to the “small humans” in our home 🙂
What fun to have these little puppies in our home for the week!
It is my first time being on the road and staying away from home during a dog show – the Portland Rose classic is a big 4 day All-breed show. Its fun to play around in the Best of Breed ring as we try to garner points towards our Grand CH title.
Over the weekend we got Select 2x and went Best of Opposite 2x which equates to 4 more points towards our title. Wahoo!

We like to take our dogs everywhere we go (if we can). On this gorgeous wintery day, we went hiking at the beautiful Snoqualmie Falls and Maddy and Arrow came with us 🙂
My friend Alisha took a photo of Miss Maddy at the Whidbey Island Kennel Club this weekend – love this little girl. We picked up Select bitch both days and 2 majors towards our Grand CH title.
