Lucy Grey – Welcome to Kazuri

I don’t often purchase other dogs to incorporate into my lines. However, when Diane from Wilderness beagles in ID contacted me about a couple of girls she had available, I will admit my interest piqued. Funnily enough, I had just been on a road trip with a couple of show friends and talking about these puppies and Malia and I decided there was only one thing but to fly to UT and attend a dog show and look at puppies.

We were not disappointed – Diane and her granddaughter Cheyenne were so lovely to work with. We had 2 girls to choose from and we went back and forth and back and forth, but settled on Lucy Grey.

Malia and I will co-own her and she will go back and forth between our homes. We are so very excited for the future <3

Phoenix’s pups turns 2 weeks old

Phoenix’s babies are just thriving. My daughter Brianna looked after them while I dashed to NZ to celebrate my Nana’s 90th birthday celebration. She did an amazing job. I am so thankful for her.

They have their eyes open now and are starting to get up on their feet.

Enjoy their photos

Shelby wins her final major to be Kazuri’s latest Champion!

I am so so proud of Shelby – *pending AKC* – she is no longer the Queen of Reserve and won Winners B today for her final major to finish.

I am so so proud of this sweet and pretty little girl who is owned by Pat & Harmoni Plana in Louisiana. They have done a beautiful job training and conditioning her, and took her almost to the finish line, and we are so thankful to Carlos for getting that final major. It sometimes takes a village when a weekend doesnt work for you to show yourself. <3 Congratulations team!

Columbia Williamette Beagle Club Weekend

I am not sure where to even start, but I am so proud of my Kazuri kids, both owned by us and other people. I was attending my Nana’s 90th birthday in New Zealand (where I am from). So, i was jealous at all my friends having a fabulous time without me, and also how proud I was of my dogs.

First up, I have to say I am so so proud of my 20 month old 13 inch boy MURPHY. He won Best In Specialty (BISS) at the first beagle specialty under Dr Andrea Bradford.

Savannah (Kazuri’s Gonna Be Peachy) took 13 inch winners bitch all three All Breed shows at Chintimini and proved she is a quick learner being at her first dog show. She loved and co-owned between Malia Throop and Sarah Sweetman

Claire, Roylcrest’s Anything You Want, You Got It, ( daughter of Kazuri boy Ch Kazuri’s To Sir With Love) in 13” Beagles, won WB for a major, Best Bred by Exhibitor 13”, BOS and Best Bred by in Specialty under Dr Andrea Bradford. At the second specialty under judge Mrs Wendy Boce she won 13 inch Winners Bitch and Best Bred by Exhibitor 13 inch Beagles. Kazuri is thrilled for Lorna and Sam from Roylcrest beagles and this super little girl.

Maxim, GCH CH Kazuri’s Rockin’ The Naughty List at Roylcrest bred by Kazuri and co-owned by Lorna & Sam Boydston and Sarah Sweetman won 15” BOS under Dr Andrea Bradford

I am so so very proud of my Kazuri dogs and how well they did this weekend. <3

Phoenix and Watson welcome 3 boys

This pairing is a Kazuri to Kazuri match – I don’t do those often as I try to match my girls with their best match, and that isn’t always what I own or bred. However, I was excited to take these two lines that I started and cross them together mixed with a loose line breeding of “Ripley” (GCH Brookhaven Believe it or not” being behind both of these dogs.

Phoenix went into labor on Saturday, and knowing she only had 3 on board, I didn’t want to take the risk getting one stuck (previous litter experience) and so we opted for a c-section. I am so thankful for vets who are available as needed.

I was expecting rubies and lo and behold we got 3 Blenheim boys. Who would have thought??? Not me.

I am so excited to watch these little fellas grow. Our sweet little Easter babies.

Biggest boy 7.1oz

Red boy 6.8oz

Tiny boy

Mom and babies are doing fantastic and already nursing like champions

An open letter regarding epilepsy

An open letter to the fancy:

On behalf of Chelsea and Myself, and the wider group of breeders/exhibitors/handlers that this impacts, we would like to address some rumors that have been floating around.

I will admit that I am disappointed that people in the fancy haven’t had the respect to come and talk to us directly, but chatter behind our backs and spread half truths. This was not the first time hearing of such rumors and so we felt we needed to address it. Our breed doesn’t improve without honesty, and we are prepared to be honest with anyone who will ask. Chelsea and I pride ourselves with open honest conversations.

I would like to address the rumor that one of Tex’s littermates has epilepsy. That is not true.

We are in regular contact with all of the owners of the dogs and no one has shown any symptoms, and are healthy dogs who will be 3 this summer – of course none of us have a crystal ball to know the future, but that is true for any breeding or litter or dog we have regardless of their breed or breeding.

Furthermore, Tex has sired several litters with no issues in any puppies at this time.

What is true is that there was an “oops” unplanned litter that occurred between a brother and sister – two full littermates of Tex’s. The resulting puppies of that litter were placed with that knowledge to the new owners and none of these puppies will sire/whelp a litter. This was obviously not a planned breeding and full littermates made it very inbred which is never ideal.

Last August (2023), one of the resulting puppies from that litter, experienced one single series of mild focal petite activity, on one day.

This puppy was in an extreme heat situation with smoke from local fires present and she was under stress when they occurred. This puppy was checked by a vet, and is being monitored and has not had any kind of seizure activity since. She has not been medicated or treated for this, as it was over by the time she was seen by a vet, with no after effects.

It is unknown if the external circumstances played a part, but it would seem logical since she has not had any issues before or since that day.

We are hesitant to call this “epilepsy” as it has been an isolated event so far, with extreme and abnormal circumstances surrounding it. The vets also agree that they would not categorize it as “epilepsy” at this time for that same reason.

The other puppies, and this one, will continue to be monitored. So far they are all happy and loved members of families. We are thankful.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please contact myself or Chelsea about it. We would prefer honest conversations rather than hearing about chatter behind our backs.

Thank you so much

Sarah

New International Champion Titles

My friends Dolly, Malia and Ruthie and I went to Ridgefield to play at the International Dog show there.

We took beagles Savannah (Kazuri’s It’s Gonna Be Peachy), Gypsy (Joyful Noise N Kazuri Just Lace and Paper Flowers) and Whimsy (Joyful Noise N Kazuri Just Glitter in the Wind). Whim did not show but Savannah and Gypsy had a wonderful day. Both got their Puppy IntCH and Gypsy went on to get owner handled reserve best in show for the puppies. Talk about an incredible finish to the day!!

We took 4 cavaliers – Teddy (Kazuri’s Roosevelt Rough Rider), Puck (Kazuri’s Light Up The Ice), Charlie (Kazuri’s The Mystery of Hope) and Piper (Kazuri’s Play Me Another Love Song). All four attained top marks for their age and got their INT CH titles. I was so so thrilled indeed.

It was a busy weekend with loads of memories and fun. I am so glad I have these opportunities to hang out with my friends, road trip and show our amazing dogs. thank you to all the families who are guardians for some of these dogs and allow me to borrow them to show.

Tex is number one in the USA

I am so very proud of Tex, piloted by none other than Mike Kurtzner.

This boy is young and learning the ropes of showing more consistently – Chelsea and I couldn’t be prouder to have Tex stand amongst other wonderful dogs in the top rankings.

There is a lot of time between now and the end of the year, but for now we will be excited that for January Tex was #1 15 inch beagle.
