Phoenix has her CKCS puppies

Phoenix went in to the vet today as she had some black discharge and so we decided to run a progesterone and see how she was doing. Much to our surprise she was at almost a 0 and birth was impending – 4 days earlier than planned (and we calculate day 60 not 63 for cavaliers anyway).

With the consultation with Dr Thoreson from Klahaya animal vet clinic, we decided to do a c-section in case something was wrong. I am so glad we did as there was a dead puppy (probably for a few days) and that more than likely spurred her to be laboring early.

The 4 surviving pups were small but strong and Phoenix came through the surgery without a hitch. enjoy

Girl 1 (blen) – 5.0oz

Girl 2 – (ruby with stripe) – 4.25oz

Girl 3 – (ruby with dot) – 5.9oz

Boy (ruby) – 5.45oz

Once home, Phoenix recovered quickly and took to caring for her babies. I love moms who are wonderful and do their job well.

Echo’s beagle pups are 5 weeks

Echo’s beagle puppies are full tiny adults now – they are eating 3 meals a day like champs, starting to use the potty boxes and are fully weaned. Echo is a wonderful mom and is now playmate as they learn biting hurts and limits of how to be a good dog.

Aunty Charity adores the babies too – you will see her in a couple of these photos – we have dubbed her “the nanny” – she thinks they are the best – even if their sharps get her as they try to nurse sometimes.

Enjoy the latest photos of them playing outside.

Rosie’s pups venture outside at 3.5 weeks

Rosie’s pups have been growing well – they are up on their feet and exploring their pen. I decided to take them on a little adventure outside – they werent too sure what to think but their little sniffers were in hyperdrive trying to figure out their new world.

Boy 1: Darcy

Boy 2: Charles

Girl 1: Elizabeth

Girl 2: Jane

Arthur and Rosie’s beagle pups are growing up too

They are just getting so big – for little blobs 🙂 Rosie is such a wonderful mom and keeps them well fed and satisfied. They are so adorable and we love to snuggle them – we know that before much longer their eyes will be open and they will be ready for play not cuddles. So we get them while we can.

Pool Party for Rosie’s 3rd birthday

One of the things I am most grateful for is the community that has developed around these precious little dogs.

One of Walter x Madison’s pups owners decided it would be so fun to get everyone together for a 3rd birthday party. So – we gathered from around OR and WA and met for an afternoon of fun, presents galore, great food and a pool party.

The pups are Bradley, Ruthie, Rosie (who I own), Poppy and Ella. Bradley lives with his nephew Bucky, Poppy has her 1/2 brother River and Ella has her uncle Sullivan. So there was a lot of excitement to get them all together.

There were prizes for the loudest bark, the longest ears, the best behaved, the one with the most white, the best ball catcher – it was so so fun.

Rosie had pups 5 days earlier, but we still went. She had a quiet area of the house she could retreat to when she needed to, and she would come and out and socialize when she wanted to. It was well worth the 9 hour drive there and back 🙂

Enjoy some of the 100s of photos taken. I felt so blessed to be part of this and know my dreams of a Kazuri family are coming true.

Arthur and Rosie’s beagle pups arrive

We knew Rosie was close – she had been nesting all night and so that morning when she was uncomfortable and needing to “pee” constantly, we knew she had to be pretty close.

Around 12:30 she started big contractions and by 12:55pm she had baby #1 – a lovely 9.45oz girl.

Baby #2 came shortly after around 1:15 – a boy weighing in at 11oz.

Baby #3 was another boy – they just kept getting bigger (poor Rosie) – 11.10oz.

And true to form, at 2:20pm she had baby #4 – another girl who weighed in at 11.54oz.

We knew we were waiting on one more baby. It wasn’t long before Rosie was pushing again. This time, I knew it was a big baby – the head came but she couldn’t seem to get the body out. I yelled for my husband – he has long skinny fingers which help in situations like this. I held Rosie’s hips open and he gently guided/helped pull with every push – but after 15 mins of pushing when he was born, he was ghostly white – oxygen deprivation was not on our side. We tried every trick to revive him – rubbing, Dex, needle poke on his nose – to no avail. He had been in the canal too long and we lost him. He was 13.8oz – huge puppy – much too big for a little 13 inch beagle girl. We grieved the loss of him but also celebrated the healthy pups we got.

Mom and babies settled in to nursing right away – all are healthy and strong. We are so thankful.

Brie welcomes her new babies into the world

Brie (Hailstorm’s Allouette) usually lives with Mike and Karen in Tennessee, but with Karen having surgery they asked if she could whelp here in WA. She is a maiden at 6 years old and was bred by them, but of course I am happy to help out. She is closely related to my dogs and Emmy’s BFF so they will be “sister moms” together whelping so closely.

This is the pedigree of the litter for those interested:

She went into labor late Monday night and then labored Tuesday. It wasn’t till Tuesday evening that we really started to see things start to transition. She started to squat to pee a lot so we knew the sensation of pressure was starting to get more intense in the evening and so we kept her isolated and away from the other dogs

Her first baby was born at 10:45. A big bonnie boy – he got a little stuck but we got it out. He was 9.28oz

Just over an hour later, she started to push again.

I was delighted to see our blue streak had been broken with a girl – 9.49oz

We then had a big gap. Brie was relaxed. I took her to go bathroom, and she pottied and she settled in with her 2 babies. Occasionally she would get up and move around but it felt more like she was moving a baby down than pushing. I kept checking on the dopplar and heartbeats were a steady 220ish so that was good. It took everything inside me not to be panicking that something was wrong. Around 4am she starting pushing again. Brie pushed out a giant girl – 10.97oz – this one was a dry birth making it extra hard and so i had to help her a lot. The poor baby had a purple face for quite a while. But she was okay.

Our last baby was another girl, born just before 5am. She was 8.78oz. Her birth was textbook and easy and I was grateful.

Brie has settled into motherhood beautifully. She fiercely loves her babies and cleans them and cuddles them. I am grateful.
