Madison & Vixen’s beagle puppies turn 6 weeks

The beagle puppies are getting bolder and starting to really love the routines. They understand where the food bowls are (naturally) and how to navigate the little stairs out to the yard they play in. It’s amazing how quickly they are growing and exploring their world.

I still haven’t made my decisions about who is staying and going. I appreciate all the people who are waiting and how hard it is for you and i want to thank you for your patience. My breeding program takes hundreds of hours of preparation, commitment and thousands of dollars, and so i agonize over making the right decision so I don’t place the best puppy into a family where they will get neutered or spayed. I try to keep the best in every litter, so my breeding program is built on the built – temperament, structure and health wise. So, again I thank you for your patience.

Here are the photos of this week. I took them to my studio this week for my typical “blue chair” photos. I usually let them play for a while first so they aren’t so wiggly, but by the time I started, they were so worn out nearly everyone was asleep. HA! It worked too well. So some of them are barely awake in the photos.

Thank you for your interest in my breeding program. I wont be making offers to any families till closer to 7-8 weeks when I can assess their structure and temperament, and decide which will be staying in my breeding program. I am just not quite ready yet – thank you for your patience.

Please note for any new enquiries, that I have approximately a 12 month wait time for puppies at this time.

Puppy playtime in the yard

It was a lovely afternoon so I decided to let the beagle puppies play in the backyard with the big dogs. They confidently ran around smelling all the new smells and exploring the new spots in the yard. We have almost an acre so it could be intimidating for tiny pups, but I was so happy to see that they happy out there. It probably helped that their mommies were out there too.

These are the colors of collars they have on, so in the photos you know who is who: (Maddy x Buddy) – Gordon – Yellow, Ming – Silver, Bobby – Black, Mario – Cream, Carla – Purple, Julia – Pink. (Vixen x BJ) Elon – Light Blue, Doug – Navy Blue, Bob – Green, Katherine – Red, Dorothy – Orange.

Thank you for your interest in my breeding program. I wont be making offers to any families till closer to 6-7 weeks when I can assess their structure and temperament, and decide which will be staying in my breeding program.

Please note for any new enquiries, that I have approximately a 12-18 month + wait time for puppies at this time.

Madison & Vixen’s beagle pups turn 5 weeks

5 weeks – when did that happen? Woah. They are bone-a-fide mini dogs now – running around and talking (aka growling) and playing together and with toys. They love the mini slide and teeter totter. We have combined the two litters together so to make sure we don’t mix them up, I have put collars on Vixen’s litter. While their markings are different, I don’t want to chance mixing them up till I am completely sure I know who is who. Some of them look very similar 🙂

This week’s photos I did outside – their first outside outing – they were a little nervous but mostly curious and so getting them to sit still was quite a challenge. I can see my days of getting headshots are numbered. 😛 HA! But that’s okay – there is a big world out here to explore. This week they will play in the yard properly for the first time. That will be a big adventure for them.

Gordon (he will wear a yellow collar outside)

Ming (he will wear a silver collar outside)

Bobby (he will wear a black collar outside)

Mario (he will wear a cream collar outside)

Carla (she will wear a purple collar outside)

Julia (she will wear a pink collar outside)

Elon (he will wear a light blue collar outside)

Doug (he will wear a navy blue collar outside)

Bob (he will wear a green collar outside)

Katherine (she will wear a red collar outside)

Dorothy (she will wear a orange collar outside)

Factor 7 and Beagles

Factor 7 is a potential delay in blood coagulation, during times of trauma.

So, it isn’t the same as hemophilia where the dog bleeds out as they don’t coagulate at all.  It wouldn’t impact them in a time of non-trauma like running around the yard and hurting themselves on a stick.

The potential would come into play with times of trauma – being hit by a car, or something else traumatic – there is a higher likelihood of blood taking longer to coagulate – but not guaranteed that this would even happen.

Ruth Stewart, AKC judge and long time breeder has written up an excellent article with examples of “affected dogs” that have not been impacted by their F7 – http://www.aladarbeagles.com/factor7.html  It is definitely worth a read.

What would it mean for you if your dog was “affected”?

What I recommend to my dogs who are “affected” is to give them vitamin K in the days leading up to a spay/neuter, and to inform the vet so they can have plasma on board “just in case”.  But other than that, you and your dog can live a pretty normal life thankfully

Madison & Vixen’s Pups are 3 weeks.

It seems a little silly to make a separate post for these two litters since they are just two days apart. So, I am going to post it on Thursday – the day in between to be “fair” 🙂 LOL.

The babies are growing up nicely. I am smiling to myself that I think that a couple of Madison’s babies have decided that they want to be babies just a little bit longer – their first bite of food was “traumatic” and caused two to cry (not pointing any fingers :P). I have never had that before. Needless to say, that after several attempts, we now have everyone eating successfully – one little Diva girl prefers to eat off the spoon, and who am I but to oblige her? Life is short and I only get so much time with them at this stage.

They are all beginning to toddle around on drunken legs and so we are starting to let them explore outside the whelping box a little more. Over the coming week/s they will start to discover the magic of toys and what fun those are. 🙂

Enjoy the latest pictures of the babies

Vixen’s puppies are 2 weeks as well

Vixen’s pups are growing up beautifully as well. She is a wonderful momma and they are content and happy little souls.

Their eyes are just opening also – it’s so great to know that we will be able to talk to them and have them hear us this week. 🙂

Their potty box will go in this week too. It’s kind of nice having 2 litters going through everything in unison

Vixen and BJ pups turn 1 week

Of course with Maddy’s pups turning a week old, Vixen’s pups are just a couple of days behind. They are also thriving and turning into beautiful chunky little bonny beagle pups. Both mothers are just super at their job – I feel very blessed indeed.

Here are Vixen’s precious 5. I decided the litter theme for Vixen’s babies would be in honor of the Space X launch that happened this week. These are of course only their blog names – we call them all “puppy” until we know their real names from their family or till we name them for real ourselves. The 2 girls were named after Katherine G. Johnson and Dorothy Vaughan who I was very inspired by after watching “Hidden Figures” by their work at NASA.

Mia and Riker’s puppies arrive

We are so thrilled to announce, after 3 missed attempts at trying to get her pregnant, that Miss Mia had 4 healthy puppies this morning. It seemed all she needed was a young boy in person 🙂 LOL.

**Please note that these puppies are being raised with my very wonderful and super capable co-breeders Mike and Karen down in Sacramento. I am grateful as doing 3 litters and 15 puppies would be a little much. 🙂 We truly didnt think all 3 litters would take. But I am so grateful all the same.

Congratulations Riker on your first puppies. <3

Here they are:

Boy 1: 11oz

Boy 2: 11.3oz

Girl 1: 8.7oz

Girl 2: 11.6oz

Madison X Buddy’s pups turn 1 week old

The first week milestone is always a good one for me – it signals that I dont have to get up every 2 hours in the night any more (just once mid way through) to check on them, and usually by now they have gained their birthweight back. Well, these guys are little piggies and a couple have made it to double their birthweight already and the others aren’t far behind. To say Maddy is doing a wonderful job with her pups is an understatement.

This week we should see little peepers – I love seeing their little eyes and watching them get up on their feet for the first time. Although honestly, this is the most content bunch I have ever raised so maybe they will just want to keep sleeping a little longer 😛 HA!

I decided since Buddy’s name is “The Cake Boss”, that I would go with a litter theme of some of my favorite chefs from around the world.

Here you go – this week’s pictures. <3

Boy 2: Ming (aka Ming Tsai)
