Nellie welcomes her babies into the world

First thing you should know is that dogs hardly ever read the “rule book” about what a “normal” birth is going to be like 🙂 LOL. Cavaliers typically give birth on days 58-60 where another breed might go to day 63.

Nellie decided to wait till day 62 to give birth this time. Last time was day 56. We had been watching her like a hawk and I stayed up several nights with her. On the morning of Aug 14th, she started to really show signs and the first pup was born around 9:30am. Of course, since she was on day 62, I had an appointment to see my vet to assess how things were and a possible c-section at 11:30 – i quickly realized that we wouldnt make it.

The first baby got a little stuck but it didnt take us long to get him warmed up and breathing well. A 7.7oz tri baby boy. My mom is visiting from NZ and so helped give him cuddles and oxygen while I attended to Nellie.

The second pup came soon after, about 9:45am. A tri girl – 6.35oz

An hour later, we saw Nellie straining again. The 3rd puppy came head first (good) but the shoulders got stuck and so nellie was having trouble getting the body out. We gently helped with every contraction and a big blenheim girl 8.4oz was born. She gasped a lot and again my mom was put onto warming/rubbing and oxygen duty.

Another hour later, we took Nellie outside for a potty break walk and she instantly started pushing again. This one was a decent size again, and feet first (normal but harder for mom) and so my husband and I tried hard to coax it out. He was born while and lifeless and so we went to work on rubbing him, oxygen and warmth. His first breath I cried. Another boy – 8.2oz

Unfortunately while we were tending to our last little guy, the blen girl started to really crash. We had her on oxygen and warmth but her breathing become labored and slow and then stopped. We checked her over and she had blood in her stool and so I believe she suffered some internal damage from being so large. It was so heartbreaking to lose such a gorgeous girl.

The three remaining pups are doing great and we are thrilled about that.

Echo and Murphy’s pups are 4 weeks old

Echo’s babies are 4 weeks and toddling around like little champs. Today we took them outside and they explored the puppy area. They did very well and I know they will just keep getting more and more confident outside in the coming weeks. Enjoy the photos of them from this morning.

Echo’s beagle babies turn 2 weeks

Echo is keeping her little ones very satisfied and so they don’t really want to move around a whole lot yet. Their eyes have tiny peeps so we should have eyes open by the end of the week.

I am loving their bone and their lovely heads – its a very consistent looking litter and I can’t wait to see how they keep developing once they are up on their feet.

Girl – Savannah

Boy 1 – Memphis

Boy 2 – Raleigh

Kazuri wins multiple awards for the NBC Best of the Best 2022

If I’m honest, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude with the honor of standing beside such incredible breeders and exhibitors and humbled that I had a part to play in several of the awards given out for 2022.

The National Beagle Club announced that Nick is the official 15 inch beagle of the year for 2022. I am beyond grateful to co-breeders and co-owners Mike and Karen who have made Nick the superstar he is as they take him to all the shows across the US

It was a 3 way tie for “Stud dog of the year” – each with 7 CH progeny- Nick (MBIS MBISS GCHP Kazuri’s All I Want For Christmas CGC TKN ATT), Spencer (BISS CH Ha’Pennys Too Much Trouble) and Alvin (BISS GCHS Tallie Farms Mysteries and Mayhem) – I am so thrilled for breeders and owners of Nick – myself, Mike Karen and of course Penny Petrille who is Spencers breeder., to Dan & Terri Carter (Spencers owners when he was alive) and Susan Kustrup (Alvin’s breeder and owner) – congratulations to each of these deserving dogs.

As if that wasn’t enough, the girl Chelsea Metteer and I imported from Australia and bred her together, Puddin (Aus CH Karakush Proof Is InTh Puddin) won Dam of the year with 7 CHs from one litter (Her litter with SPencer). Huge thank you and congratulations to her breeders Leigh and Helen Gibson.

The thing I marvel about is none of this was done alone. I have strived to build community with my life in dogs and the fact that all of these wins were with my friends is such a bonus. I am so grateful for all the work and effort of those who went before me to set me up for such success. So thank you 💖 to my co-owners, co-breeders and everyone cheering us on.

I say it all the time, but we are better together. At least I know I am. 💖

Echo and Murphy’s beagle pups are 1 week

Echo is a super mother and has full cream milk – all of the puppies have already doubled their birthweight. She keeps them clean and warm and they are content.

I can’t wait for their eyes to start opening in the next week or so.

Echo welcomes her beagle litter with Murphy

Echo welcomed 4 healthy babies via planned C-Section today – her labor didnt progress last time and so with bigger babies on board we thought that it would be smart to just make the decision before it became an emergency. She came through surgery well and was already licking her babies while waking up. She is an excellent mother. I am grateful.

Just like last time – she had 3 boys and a girl. so I will introduce them below

Girl – 10.0oz

Boy 1 – 12.05oz

Boy 2 – 10.10oz

Boy 3 – 11.75oz

Back home they are all settled and happy. I am so thankful

The CWBC Hound Show in Hillsboro OR

I don’t typically travel for dog shows, but wanted to support my local beagle club by being part of it. Bonnie and I stayed at a local AIrBnb and the dogs enjoyed being able to sleep in bed with me 🙂

I took Callie (my 10 month old 13inch class), Madison (my 15 inch veteran) and met up with friends Bonnie with our shared girl Audrey (15 inch class), Sarah with Dutch (15 special) and Murphy (13 inch class) and Sarah Y with Fonzie (15 inch veteran).

The first day we had loads of ribbons as there was sweeps, the beagle specialty and a hound specialty. The CWBC put on a lovely lunch too.

Thank you to judges Mrs Margie Dykstra for sweeps, Mrs Patricia Anne Keenan for CWBC on Friday, Mrs Sylvie McGee for the Hound show, Mrs Ann C Meyer for CWBC on Saturday and Ms. Sheila Paske for the Hound show Saturday.

Callie – Kazuri’s Everything’s Sugar N Spice (13) on Friday won best sweeps in variety, then WB/BOW, Best Bred By in Variety and best Owner handler in show at the CWBC specialty, then BOV/BOH over a special at the Hound show. On Saturday won WB, Best Bred By in Variety and best Owner handler in variety at the CWBC specialty, then BOV/BOH over a special at the Hound show to finish her CH.

Murphy – Kazuri’s Everything’s Gonna Be Alright (13) went best opp in sweeps in variety, then WD at the CWBC specialty, then WD again at the Hound show. On Saturday he went then WD/BOW and Best Puppy in Show at the CWBC specialty, then WD again at the Hound show.

Audrey – Rosehounds Brown Eyed Girl at Kazuri (15) best sweeps in variety, then Best in Sweeps. She then RWB at the CWBC specialty, then RWB at the Hound show. On Saturday she went RWB at the CWBC specialty, then WB at the Hound show for 2 points.

Madison – GCH Foxtail’s Dreaming of the Race (15) just played at the CWBC show and got Best Opp from the Veterans class. She did the same on Saturday for Best Opp from the veterans class.

Dutch – GCH Van-Mar N Kazuri’s Brewin Up Trouble (15) just played at the CWBC show and got Select dog. on Saturday he went BOV and BISS!!!!!!! I was so proud.

Stevie is a new CKCS champion

I am so so proud of this little guy. We started him at a show a couple of months ago and in 5 weekends he is a new champion and has 2 majors and CH defeats towards his Grand. What a super little guy. He is a sound mover with a pretty head and correct, easy coat.

Huge thank you to Cheyenne Calvert from Sirius Handling for taking Stevie to Idaho for that last major for me. <3
