The final week of everyone being together

This is the final week of the cavalier and beagle pups being together. Fergie (now known as Penelope) has already gone to her new home, and the other cavaliers will be heading to their new homes on Saturday after their ophthalmologist check. **For those who don’t know, I send my cavalier pups home with a cardiologist heart check, an ophthalmologist eye check and a vet check from my regular vet.

The pups are all happy and healthy – I couldn’t be more pleased. I have just loved raising them and being their first mama.

Due to no fault of their own, we have 2 beagle girls available. I am working through my waitlist to find the perfect fit for both. I am hoping to find a “guardian home” for Miss Shiloh (if you want to know more about that click here: Guardian home for “shiloh” | Kazuri (kazuribeagles.com)) and a pet family for Bagel.

The puppies are all so wiggly now, it’s hard to get individual photos of them. 🙂 I might try again in my studio again next week. But, they get out in the garden daily for playtime in the garden so I love to document their play sessions. They have so much fun together.

Sibling love

Summer (Kazuri’s Sweet Summer Kisses) and Watson (Kazuri’s Time To Solve A Mystery) were both at the heart clinic today and I couldnt help taking photos of them. But like typical cavaliers, they closed their eyes, and pulled weird faces and kissed each other. How many photos does it take to get a cute photo of siblings?? HAHA.

Cavalier Puppy Playtime outdoors

With the cavalier puppies getting bigger, they get more and more time outside playing with the pack. The beagles are so gentle with them – I have an un-neutered male who is super gentle with them which makes me so proud of the temperaments of the dogs I produce.

Allie’s beagle pups are 4 weeks old

The beagle puppies are 4 weeks and continuing to grow – they are all over 4lbs each. Yup – you read that correctly – they are chunky monkeys 🙂 No shortage of good eating around here 🙂

They experienced their first time out in the garden and they thought it was amazing. The new smells and experience was a little overwhelming at first but they quickly got into it, exploring and climbing over rocks and not wanting to pose for pictures at all 🙂

The cavalier pups are 7 weeks

Charlotte’s babies are continuing to do well. they are exploring more and more and gaining so much confidence in new things. they can now navigate a few stairs and are more than happy to walk on the uneven teeter totter as part of their play. These things help with confidence building and making them well adjusted to their new life as they go home.

We introduced them to all our big dogs, who love them dearly. I am so happy to have a pack of adults, including an unfixed male, who are all gentle on babies. The babies can play with them and learn lessons from adults that arent just mom, which makes their learning so rich.

Allie’s newborn baby beagles

As promised, I took some nicer pictures of Allie’s babies. They are thriving. I don’t think I have ever had a set of puppies put on quite the weight that these guys have. Not that I am complaining at all – I am just amazed at their growth.

Allie has taken to motherhood like she was born to do it. I guess she was. She adores her babies and dotes on them as any new mother should. She watches as I do ENS on them, but never growls or fusses – just makes sure I put them back 🙂

Without further ado, I will introduce them to you. Since they were born on “National Beagle Day” it felt only fitting to name them after the most well known beagles.

Girl 1 – born at 10.62oz – now 1lb 1.1oz. Will now be named Miss P (because we joke that she should be called “Miss Piggy” as she put on 3oz in the first 36 hours)

Girl 2 – born at 11.46oz – now 1lb 1.4oz. Will now be named Shiloh.

Girl 3 – born at 10.82oz – now 15.9oz. Will now be called Bagel.

Boy 1-born at 12.35oz – now 1lb 2.4oz. Will now be called Snoopy

Boy 2-born at 11.82oz – now 1ob 1.5oz. Will now be called Gromit

Allie & Leo welcome their new Beagle puppies

Allie went into labor on her due date and labored, as first time mamas usually do, all night long and during the next day which happened to be Earth Day AND Beagle Day.

Around 1:30 her waters broke and so we were excited that maybe we were going to have a daytime birth. However, she started to push every now and then, but not with a lot of vigor and certainly not consistently.

At 4:30 another water sack appeared – this one clear and so I figured there was a puppy close….but we waited and waited and no puppy came. Allie was not in distress, and I kept in regular contact with breeder friends and with my trusted vets Dr Cyndi Smith from The Pet Dr and Dr Anders Thorsen from Klahaya Animal Hospital. Since we weren’t having green (indicating placental detachment), and Allie was calm, we decided to wait patiently, but around 9:30pm it just felt like we weren’t progressing and I didn’t want to wait all night and lose a baby (or worse all plus Allie) because we waited too long.

So, Dr Thoreson kindly allowed us to come in for a c-section. My loving husband and 14 year old daughter were there to rub puppies after I “caught” them.

We quickly realized why the puppies didnt come out – they were HUGE. 2 boys and 3 girls. Boy 1 was 12.35oz, Boy 2 was 11.82oz, Girl 1 was 10.62oz, Girl 2 was 11.46oz and Girl 3 was 10.82oz. Those were some big babies. And they were HUNGRY. We got them latched on as Allie was waking up – poor poppet.

She is adjusting to motherhood slowly – she doesn’t dislike them but i think she is very confused as to why these little beans keep wiggling all over her. I am doing all the potty work right now – I am sure she will catch on soon. <3

These puppies are sired by my homebred by Leo – CH Kazuri’s Hear Me Roar. This is his first litter and i have to say I like what I see so far.

Charlotte’s cavalier babies are 3 weeks old

The cavalier babies are getting bigger. This week they had their first taste of food and they loved it. I always start them on a little ground beef and Answers Goats Milk as it is very easy on the tummy. The babies are starting to move around the pen more. We have given them a “big bed” to sleep in and mama Charlotte can come and go as she wants to. She now feeds them and then spends the rest of the day sitting in the sun or getting belly rubs on the couch.

Okay – I know this is the part you are looking forward to – the updated pictures of these cuties. I woke these guys up from a nap, so thats why they look a little sleepy.

Nick picks up his majors in Brooksville Florida

One of the biggest early show clusters of the year happens in Brooksville Florida. It is 10 days of shows broken into two 5 day clusters. The week before there is a multi day show circuit in Texas and so these shows tend to pull pretty good numbers. Little did we know that with the added stress of COVID cancelling dog shows all over the USA, these shows had record numbers this year 🙂

My co-breeders/co-owners Mike and Karen Kurtzner thought it might be a fun idea to head across to the first cluster of these shows from the 14th – 18th Jan and take Nick (Kazuri’s All I Want For Christmas) and Rosie (Kazuri’s Everything’s Coming Up Roses). As luck would have it, Rosie went into season days before the shows started, and so we had to pull her from showing. No one wants an ovulating female driving all the boys wild in the ring or even ringside. 🙂 It was such a bummer, but needed to happen.

With an entry of around 35 beagles total each day, there were 4 and 5 point majors each day in the classes. Wonderful numbers. Nick went “Best Bred By” in dogs each day except for Sunday. The icing on the cake was Nick going Winners Dog and Best of Winners for a 5 point major on Saturday under judge Ms. Denny C Mounce. Then on Monday, he repeated his success by doing the same thing, gaining a 4 point major under judge Mrs. Joanne Buehler.

I am very proud of sweet Nick and thankful to Mike and Karen who drove all those miles back and forth to Florida to show our boy. Thank you to the judges who recognized our boy. We appreciate it so much.
